Overriding Currencies and Language Settings for Storefronts

Overview

This article explains how currencies and languages are selected by default for new orders, and provide instructions for overriding the default behavior.

About the Customer’s Country

A customer's selected country can have a variety of impacts on the purchase process. For example, the selected country can affect:

  • the currency selected by default (and thus the prices shown)
  • whether or not the prices include VAT, GST, or other taxes by default
  • whether or not a link to enter the purchaser's tax ID is displayed
  • the payment methods available to the purchaser (e.g., customers in Germany have several payment methods not available to customers in the United States)

However, the country selected does not control or determine the selected language.

 Tip

By default, Web Storefronts and Popup Storefronts automatically set the order country based on the geographic location of the customer's IP address.

If you set up a Storefront specifically for use by customers in a specific location, you might want to override the automatic country selection process and set a specific order country to be used by default.

Currencies and Languages Available to Purchasers

FastSpring supports transactions in sixteen different languages and up to twenty-three different currencies.

Should you need to limit the languages or currencies available to customers, you can do so at the individual Storefront level. Currencies can also be limited for the entire Store if desired.

 Note

Russian Rubles (RUB) and South African Rand (ZAR) are supported but are disabled for all Stores by default. Enabling either of these currencies makes PayPal unavailable as a payment option in the corresponding countries.
