The FastSpring Story

FastSpring was founded in 2005 as a partnership of industry veterans with over 40 years experience in the e-commerce software industry, with a vision of bypassing legacy systems, addressing e-commerce customer dissatisfaction and building a robust e-commerce engine with the latest database, transactional and marketing technologies.

Members of the FastSpring team pioneered key segments of previous-generation e-commerce systems, and joined forces to build the next generation system—FastSpring.

FastSpring serves thousands of clients worldwide. A leading e-commerce service for the general software industry, FastSpring is also the number one e-commerce service for Mac software publishers.

FastSpring has been recognized by the Codie Awards and the Stevie Awards two years in a row for its superior product offering and outstanding customer service. The Codie Awards named FastSpring a Finalist in the category of Best Subscription Management Solution. In 2015, Fastspring received its third consecutive Stevie Award for Customer Service Department of the Year for companies in the Computer Services & Software category.

LEADERSHIP TEAM

Chris Lueck

CEO
 

Prior to joining FastSpring, Chris co-founded Pylon Capital, an investment fund focused on software and tech-enabled companies. Chris previously managed product development for Nyko Technologies, a developer of peripherals for the digital lifestyle. Before Nyko, he was a product engineer at Qualcomm, where he worked on the world’s first commercial 3G chip. Chris holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia, and an MBA with honors from the University of Southern California.

Ben Knoll

CFO
 

Prior to joining FastSpring, Ben served as the Chief Financial Officer of Data Fusion Technologies, a software developer and professional services provider to the large and mid-sized legal market, where he led all aspects of the company’s finance and administrative functions. Previously in his career, Ben led various merger and acquisition, divestiture and partnership initiatives at Sequential Capital Partners, León, Mayer & Co., The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, and RSM EquiCo. Ben holds a BS in Economics with concentrations in Finance and Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Michael Smith

CTO
 

Prior to joining FastSpring, Michael was Chief Technology Officer at Verisk Analytics where he was responsible for transforming the risk management ecosystem via improvements in data management, predictive analytics and advanced simulation. Michael also was Chief Technology Officer/Chief Architect at Interthinx, where he managed the design and deployment of hosted software services for automated fraud and compliance analysis, loan file reviews, as well as systems for analyzing and forecasting consumer loan portfolios. In addition he was Chief Software Architect for Strategic Analytics, where Michael developed patented technologies in non-linear time series decomposition and scenario-based forecasting for retail lending.

Scott Halstead

SVP Business Development & Marketing
 

Scott comes to FastSpring with a background in Consulting, Technology, Product, and Entrepreneurship both in the United States and overseas. Prior to joining FastSpring, Scott served as VP of Commerce & Payments at LivingSocial where he was responsible for defining and delivering new merchant-facing product offerings. Prior to that, Scott was a partner at Accenture where he had many roles, culminating in leading the IT Strategy & Transformation practices in Tokyo and Singapore. Scott holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University and an M.S. in Management from the MIT Sloan School.

Brian Deignan

VP Corporate Sales
 

Brian is passionate about building successful teams focused on delighting customers throughout their buying journey. Constantly adjusting to rapidly changing demands he aims to predict the needs of potential clients, transforming technology evaluation into a true partnership. Prior to joining FastSpring Brian spent eight years at AppFolio helping them grow revenue from a $0 startup to a $100 million ARR public company. His focus is to build on the success FastSpring has already achieved to accelerate revenue growth. When he isn’t working you'll find him outside as much as possible enjoying the Santa Barbara weather, stand-up paddleboarding, or brewing beer at home.

Ashutosh Chitnis

Director of Software Engineering
 

Ashutosh brings more than a decade of eCommerce and technical leadership experience to FastSpring with expertise in managing agile product development teams focused on business outcomes and deliverables. Prior to joining FastSpring, Ashutosh was Sr. Manager, Product Development at Citrix, which provides remote access & virtualization products, where he lead the eCommerce and Business Platform engineering teams. Ashutosh holds an M.S. in Computer Science from Florida State University.

Adam Cohen

Director of Professional Services
 

Adam comes to FastSpring from Avangate, where he held a similar position, building out the PS team. Adam has been involved with eCommerce on the development side of the house since the late 90's serving as Director of Engineering for a number of eCommerce startups. Adam is married, and has three kids and is now the shortest male member of his family and not happy about it! Adam loves all sports, and plays tennis a few times a week.

Daren Courter

Director of Global Field Sales
 

Daren joins FastSpring with 15+ years of senior leadership in a variety of global sales and operational roles. Most recently Daren was responsible for enterprise sales for a competing digital commerce platform where he delivered solutions for HP, Brocade and other enterprise clients. Prior to that, Daren was General Manager and VP of Sales for the Silicon Valley division of a global supply chain provider that complimented traditional logistics services with a robust eCommerce, ESD and license delivery platform. Earlier in his career Daren worked with ModusLink as General Manager and Director of Business Development delivering complex supply chain solutions to Sony, Cisco Systems and Oracle on a global basis. Daren holds a BA in English from Wabash College.

Mark Hemmis

Creative Director
 

Prior to FastSpring, Mark worked in a variety of graphic, web, and creative design roles at agencies, freelance, and in-house corporate environments where he helped companies streamline and improve their visual communications, branding, and marketing efforts. He moved back to Santa Barbara to work at QAD as Creative Manager for 6 years, successfully turning around the public image of the company through effective storytelling and a massive re-brand. For inspiration he enjoys traveling, taking photos, or riding one of his bikes.

Brian Howard

Director of Finance
 

Brian entered the e-commerce industry as Controller of FastSpring. Prior to FastSpring, he worked as Regional Director of Financial Operations, overseeing financial operations for 16 divisions of a public transportation company. He also worked as a Senior Auditor for a CPA firm in Santa Barbara, California. Brian holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Economics and Finance from University of California, Santa Cruz and is also a licensed CPA in the state of California.

MICHELE JOHANNES

Director of Customer Success
 

Michele entered into the e-commerce industry fourteen years ago when she started working with eSellerate and MindVision Software. Those companies were acquired by DigitalRiver and she continued to work in the SMB division overseeing support and business development as Associate Director. Prior to being involved in e-commerce she worked at the MacHealth division of WebMD, working closely with the software development team, marketing, and support to promote multiple applications for the healthcare industry. Michele holds a BA and a Management Development Certification from the University of Nebraska and an MA from Doane College.

Jennifer Kelley

Director of Demand Generation
 

Jenn joins us from Citrix as our Director of Demand Generation. She has 10+ years and a strong track record of success developing and executing on a test-approach marketing strategy driving demand creation and conversion across multi-media channels. Jenn has experience delivering fresh ideas that attract and engage customers to find value, exceeding business objectives. For fun, she enjoys every extreme water or snow sport, and has over fifteen years experience interacting in the health and fitness industry.

Matt Loos

Director of Product Management
 

Matt is passionate about collaborating with customers, vendors of best-in-class solutions, engineers using best-in-class tools, and designers with customer empathy. He is driven to translate market and business requirements into clear, iterative roadmaps and technical tasks. Matt has expertise in delivering best-in-class subscription billing, commerce, and finance systems for business operations that require durable and scalable business workflow automation. At home in the subscription economy, Matt delivers customers product experiences that delight and offer good value.

CHRISTINA O'TOOLE

Director of Customer Marketing
 

Christina comes to FastSpring with twenty years marketing experience and a diverse background that includes publishing and higher education. She is responsible for all marketing and communication, including strategic planning, creative direction, analysis, and management of day-to-day operations. Prior to FastSpring, Christina was Director of Marketing at UC Santa Barbara for thirteen years, in charge of international and domestic outreach. Christina holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara and certificates in Web Development, Meeting & Event Planning, and Analytics.
