The Company

HomeDesigns AI launched in early 2023 as an all-in-one AI tool for easy home designing, property staging, and more. The Challenge

Because HomeDesigns is run by a small team based in Romania, they already knew that a merchant of record was not optional. Without one, VAT compliance across the 170+ countries they wanted to monetize their app in, the accounting overhead, and the technical implementation of offering localized currencies and popular local payment methods would completely bog them down and pull focus away from actually building their product.

The members of the founding team were already long-time users of the merchant of record (MoR) model, so when they launched HomeDesigns.AI, they initially tried another vendor in the market. But like many AI-native businesses at the time, they ran into a barrier with that first vendor. As providers across the industry were still developing policies around AI-generated content, the vendor wasn’t willing to work with them to better understand their business and wouldn’t provide a clear explanation of why.

The Results

The human element of FastSpring is a huge part of what has kept HomeDesigns AI at FastSpring beyond onboarding, but there have been wins on the technical side as well. 

FastSpring’s localized currencies and payment methods have been a major contributing factor to HomeDesign AI’s continued success.

One of the highest-impact things they’ve implemented on FastSpring is custom pricing for markets with lower purchasing power, such as India. Dropping the price for those users and showing it in their local currency (rupees) made a significant difference. In an A/B test on selling their product in India, pages with multi-currency checkout came out ahead of the control with a roughly 5% lift in conversion rate within about a week.
